In November 2024, Werner Engineering proudly welcomed a group of Year 10 students from a local Mackay high school for an extensive tour of our manufacturing facility. This event offered students a hands-on introduction to the diverse trades in the manufacturing industry, supporting them to explore potential career paths before embarking on apprenticeships.

The students experienced a guided walkthrough of our bustling workshop, led by our HR Manager and Machine Shop Supervisor. They observed skilled professionals in action, including:

CNC Machinists – operating advanced machinery with precision.

Fitters – disassembling and reassembling equipment.

Boilermakers –  welding and cutting materials.

Trades Assistants – maintaining cleanliness and organisation while supporting tradespeople.

Stores Staff – managing the dispatch and receipt of goods.

Draftsmen – creating detailed technical drawings.

Estimators – assessing customer requirements and job costs.

Administrative Staff – coordinating compliance and job schedules.

Following the tour, students enjoyed a delicious morning tea and received Werner Engineering merchandise as a memento of their visit. Our HR Manager took the opportunity to talk to them about essential job interview skills, including what employers look for, how to present themselves professionally and what to expect during the application process. The students actively participated and asked insightful questions before heading back to school.

This tour not only gave students a valuable glimpse into the various roles at Werner Engineering, such as boiler making, machining, CNC operations, drafting and administration, but also allowed us to identify potential future apprentices. Werner Engineering is proud to inspire and guide the next generation of skilled tradespeople, fostering talent and supporting growth in our community.
